PLUK’s Songwriting Course
Songwriting Lessons
Songwriting Clubs
Age: Suitable for songwriters aged 6 and up who are interested in expressing themselves through music.
Type of sessions: 1 to 1 tuition or delivered in groups via workshops or after-school clubs.
Length: Typically 30 minutes to 60 minutes per session, depending on the student's needs and progress.
Previous Experience: No prior experience in songwriting is necessary, but a basic understanding of music (melody, rhythm, harmony) will help. Our teachers will guide students based on their level of experience.
Content: Each lesson is designed to explore the creative process of writing music, tailored to the individual. Whether the goal is to create simple melodies or full-length songs, your teacher will support you in developing your ideas. The course focuses on lyric writing, melody creation, and basic song structures.
We'll focus on developing the following key songwriting skills:
Lyric writing: How to express emotions and tell stories through song.
Melody creation: Findgin the right tune for your words.
Song structure: Understanding verse, chorus, bridge, and other song components.
Rhythm and meter: Crafting songs that flow and keep the listener engaged.
Harmony and chords: Adding depth to your songs through harmony and chord progressions.
A typical songwriting lesson might include:
Introduction: A quick review of what has been learned in the previous session.
Exploring a new conept: Exploring new ideas, writing verses or melodies, and developing the songs.
Time to practice: Having an opportunity to practice the songwiritng technique.
Review of the session: Assessing what has been created and what’s next in the writing process.
Practice: We dont ask the songwriters to work on the materials each week, but we tend to find that students like to do so.
The more time spent with your ideas, the more we'll develop the style. While each session will aim to introduce a new musical concept it will be very relaxed. At the start, don't worry if it feels like there’s not much progress – the songwriting skills will develop over time, and with each lesson, you’ll see an improvement. But the main goal is for us to explore and have fun.

Building Creativity Through Songwriting
Creating songs isn’t just about learning techniques—it’s about building a personal connection with music and the people you play with.
Much like learning an instrument, your songwriting journey will be a mix of exploration, creativity, and reflection.
Whether you're writing for fun, for performance, or to tell your story, we’ll work with you to develop your style and voice as a songwriter.
Building a Trusted Team of Songwriters
Just as with learning an instrument, the relationship between you, your teacher, and the songwriting process is key. Having a dedicated teacher who understands your creative vision is essential in ensuring your success as a songwriter.
