Intermediate & advanced piano lessons for children and adults
Intermediate Piano Course
Length: 60 minutes
Starting level: This piano course is aimed at piano players who have finished the Beginners Piano Course or have been learning the piano a while (an ABRSM equivalent would be Grade 2/3).
We should have a good understanding of piano chords, scales and piano notation.
Content:
In this course you will:
Learn how to write piano music and notate longer piano compositions
Learn how to improvise to a higher standard, play a walking bass line etc...
Learn how to recognise styles such as baroque, romantic, classical, jazz, impressionist, boogie, ragtime and more
Learn more about major and minor piano scales and further chord development
Learn how to play songs like Fur Elise and Air on a G string
Advanced piano lessons
These piano lessons would be for piano players who have been learning how to play the piano for quite a long time. A graded equivalent would be Grade 5 and above.
By this point, generally speaking, you are able to pick up and read most pieces of music. These lessons will be 60 minutes long. We will go into more depth about specific genres and time periods of piano music.
We'll cover many more piano techniques in greater detail and learn about the structure of piano music too. E.g. Sonata form and jazz structures. We can also contemplate working towards a Graded exam (probably ABRSM) or with our guidance you could study any other piano songs that you enjoy. The choice is yours.
Studying for Exams
ABRSM’s accredited syllabus is commonly used by many piano students and covers most facets of piano study. Everything you learn is listened to by an examiner who grades the performance and you receive a certificate for your efforts if you pass.
It is not essential to go down this route but the certificates can count towards UCAS points and it’s syllabus provides the student with the opportunity to assess their progress and structure their learning.
The certificates can also be useful when applying for jobs. The syllabus is widely known and commonly recognised employers.
The ABRSM exams are the most common and respected of all of the syllabuses but there are many others like Trinity and Rockschool.
