Are you looking for a piano teacher in Preston Park?
About me
As a concert pianist, organist and composer, I have a special interest in romantic, 20th century and experimental piano repertoire. I have performed large scale improvisatory works for the public for more than a decade and I have been teaching everything I know for just as long!
Specialising in improvisation, I teach composition, arrangement and music theory alongside the standard techniques required for Classical piano. I teach appreciation and expression as fundamentals alongside technique; this allows students to learn how to develop their own personal style and find ways of playing that are enriching, imaginative and original.
My teaching approach is informal, clear, friendly and gentle. I encourage students to ask questions and can answer with basic, technical or metaphorical explanations - whichever is appropriate for your learning style. Music should be a natural extension by which we express ourselves, and I endeavour to teach it that way!
Testimonials
“Mikah caught our eyes with his skill and excitement for piano when he was
performing up at Brighton station. The ability to enthuse when teaching is so
important as it inspires our students to react in the same way.
Mikah has plenty of musical experience, maintaining a 100% pass rate in the
popular ABRSM examinations but can also work with you on other goals. He is
trained to deliver our courses and receives the full support of our teaching network. - Kevin Matthews - Director of Music, PLUK
“Mikah has an astounding ability to engage and inspire students with his skill, insight and knowledge of piano playing. He is a specialist in piano repertoire and has an in-depth understanding of the necessary techniques. Time flies by when you’re with Mikah, he is attentive, thoughtful and kind.”
Will Nash, Head Teacher - PLUK - Brighton & Hove
